The most important aspect of Holden Caulfield’s characters，of course is his rebel against the traditional social norms. He tries as hard as possible to escape from the mundane world while longs for a quiet and reclusive lifestyle in which he wants to live in a small cabin in the countryside and barely cares about the outside world. But the reality is somehow disheartening. He flunks out school and wanders in New York City before Christmas. With the development of his journey, the climax comes when he tries to escape society yet the plan doesn’t materialize. Holden results in landing in the sanitarium where his hope of escaping society comes in vain, thus his journey of escape reaches the dead end.
