如果“吉他之神”有Eric Clapton；那“贝斯之神”就属Marcus Miller！1959年出生的天才级乐手，曾为Luther
Vandross、David Sanborn、Miles
Davis等巨星编曲、写曲以及制作专辑。曾多次获得欧美等地重要音乐奖项提名，并于2001年以《M2》专辑获得第44届 Grammy
Award(葛莱美奖)“最佳现代爵士专辑”(Best Contemporary Jazz Album)的殊荣。继2005年的《Silver
Rain》大获好评之后，这位纵横爵士、流行、节奏蓝调、放克、、等各领域的超级贝斯手，睽违两年，于2007年再推出这张全新大碟－《Free》。开头
曲〈Blast〉与上一张专辑的〈Bruce
Lee〉有异曲同工之妙，是首带东方色彩的Funky曲。当然他独一无二的Slapping手法(注：Slapping是电贝斯一种以大拇指击弦的弹奏方
式)一开始就征服了我们这些死忠乐迷的心。
专辑同名曲〈Free〉是一首1976年Deniece Williams的R&B老歌，请到当今炙手可热的英国女伶Corinne
Bailey Rae跨刀献声。此外在专辑中演出的超级乐手还包括Lalah Hathaway、David Sanborn、Bernard
Wright、Paul Jackson Jr.、Tom
Scott，还有蓝调巨星Keb’Mo’。当然为他打造多张畅销专辑、与他巡回多年的乐团班底更是新碟中不可或缺的功臣！Marcus
Miller的伟大传奇在于很年轻的时即崭露头角，跟许多爵士乐界的大师合作，如Dave Grusin、 Lee Ritenour、Grover
Washington Jr.、Miles
