"People always act differently when they think no one is watching," says Olympic Gold Medalist Beck McKaye (David Paetkau), the handsome, brooding and furtive protagonist of Whistler.
Things begin to go awry in the seemingly perfect, world-class mountain resort of Whistler when hometown hero McKaye returns triumphant from the 2006 Olympic Winter Games with a snowboarding gold medal in his hands.
The 13-part series begins as Beck's broken body is discovered on a ski hill, sending shockwaves throughout the community.
Beck's mysterious accident forever changes the lives of his friends and family -- especially his younger brother, 17-year-old Quinn (Jesse Moss).
As Quinn digs deeper into the hidden life of his older brother, the secrets he uncovers reveal a side of Whistler that he's never known before.
Quinn's curiosity uncovers blackmail, hidden cameras, secret sex tapes and photos. And at the same time, the realization that he is falling for his dead brother's girlfriend.
Before long, an intricate web of desire, deceit and danger is revealed that touches almost everyone: locals and tourists, rich and poor, young and old. In Whistler, it seems everyone is hiding something.
Shot entirely in British Columbia, Whistler features an impressive needle drop soundtrack featuring an eclectic roster of Canadian artists such as indie rockers The Dirtmitts (whose song "Ordinary Day" is featured as the series opening track), The Waking Eyes, The Organ, The Stills, Hawksley Workman, Pilate and The Dears.
Later this summer, Universal Music Canada will release a Whistler soundtrack, featuring artists featured in and inspired by the series.
Whistler goes behind the scenes at the fictional five-star Varland Resort and looks beyond the perfectly groomed ski slopes of Whistler mountain.
The series pulls no punches in its frank look at life among the classes who live and work in the world class tourist destination: The Varlands, epitomizing the wealth and power of Whistler; the McKayes, an average middle class family running a tavern for locals; and the Millers, young sisters struggling to make ends meet.
