2006年10月22日，BBC開播一部新科幻電視劇《Torchwood》，這是英國長壽科幻電視劇《異世奇人》(Doctor Who) 的衍生劇集。同樣由《異世奇人》的製作人Russell T Davies 操刀。《超疑特工》的出現並非偶然，心水清的朋友會發現當中的人和物早於《異世奇人》裡亮相。當《異世奇人》推出前，製作人恐怕母帶外洩，於是用 Torchwood為節目名稱，掩人耳目。Torchwood這個名詞是由Doctor Who顛倒字母而構成。Torchwood一字在《異世奇人》裏出現過好幾次，例如提到了1879年的維多利亞女王遇到了博士和泰勒,也見識到了外星生物的存在，最後她流放了博士和泰勒的同時，決定開始建立一個專門研究並對付外星人的組織：炬木機關(the Torchwood Institute)；最後摧毀外星人飛船的武器，也是Torchwood研究院的研究成果之一。
本片主角John Barrowman有型有款，比起《異世奇人》的David Tennant有過之而無不及。驟眼看起來更有點像湯告魯斯。John Barrowman對自己的同志身份直認不諱。劇中他性感有型，現實中他感情專一，與英國建築師Scott Gill相戀超過十年，是英國同志心目中的理想對像。

Torchwood launch was a phenomenal ratings hit for BBC Three with a record-breaking 2.4 million (13% share) watching the double-bill launch This is the highest ever ratings for a UK originated programme on digital (excluding football). BBC Three 9pm slot average is estimated at 354,000 viewers BBC Two narrative repeat was also a ratings success with a 2.8 million and 12.9% share (against the average of 2.1m / 9% share)

《超疑特工》主要講述了一群調查者的冒險故事，他們利用外星科技解決犯罪案件，不僅是人類，也包括外星人的……故事的主角都是"炬木機關"的成員。1879年，英國發生外星文明入侵事件後，維多利亞女王決定成立這個機構。在卡迪夫海灣地底深處，不為人知的"炬木機關"悄悄運轉著。這裏儲藏著大量外星物件，還有一些從"裂縫"中出現的外星人。這個裂縫雖然肉眼不能察覺，但卻是現實空間維度的一個巨大裂口。
一個世紀以來，"炬木機關"一直是地球抵禦外星人入侵的第一道防線，而"炬木機關"的成員們則替人類堅守著可能發生的威脅。除了每天探索未知的東西之外，他們仍然是普通人，仍然每天都會遇到的生活煩惱。
Series Synopsis：
Separate from the Government, outside the police and beyond the United Nations, Torchwood is a team of investigators who set their own rules. Led by the mysterious and enigmatic Captain Jack Harkness, Torchwood delve into the unknown and fight the impossible in a highly volatile underworld of savage aliens and monsters whilst trying to keep their everyday lives going back home.
Alongside Captain Jack is Gwen, initially an outsider, whose first chance meeting with Torchwood at the scene of a brutal murder sparks a burning curiosity to get to the truth, throwing her into an unfamiliar but exciting world.
Clear and instinctive, she understands people and is, at times, the group's conscience Captain Jack is supported by Suzie Costello, the hard working and conscientious hardware specialist; Owen Harper, young, hedonistic but utterly brilliant; Toshiko Sato who specialises in all things computers, surveillance and all things technical and Ianto Jones, who is far more important than his receptionist role suggests.
From their base in 21st Century Cardiff on a rift in time and space, the team respond to any alien threat including a deadly gas, alien technology that opens a pathway to the past, mysterious creatures from the dawn of time and a relic from a battle long ago.

Police Constable Gwen Cooper comes across the mysterious organization known as Torchwood. While investigating their world, she finds technology and methods she never imagined. Suzie Costello betrays her colleagues when she shoots Jack in the head, thus revealing his immortality. Gwen then accepts Jack's offer of a job at Torchwood. 原本多嗎 ?? (感覺上也沒說粗口的必要啊) 跟神秘博士根本没法比，实在是垃圾到了极点 不晓得能放到第二季不～
本来这片的卖点就不是剧情～是jq～:call:442 DW的衍生局，不过我只是冲着JACK看的 有JQ那是要看的!
